Obsidian Ammonia | Bar DownQuick ammonia hit for that sharp alertness right before your lift. Obsidian Ammonia Bar Down isn't your typical sports supplement. It's smelling salts that use ammonia for a quick sensory jolt to wake you up fast. That's key. It's made for an instant 'wake up' from inhaling, not for pumps, endurance, or focus over a whole workout. Use it right before a lift, sprint, hit, or explosive push when you need a strong burst, not a slow building pre workout.

Obsidian Ammonia | Bar Down isn't your typical sports supplement. It's smelling salts that use ammonia for a quick sensory jolt to wake you up fast. That's key. It's made for an instant 'wake up' from inhaling, not for pumps, endurance, or focus over a whole workout. Use it right before a lift, sprint, hit, or explosive push when you need a strong burst, not a slow-building pre-workout.

Ammonia's the main player here. When you inhale it, the vapor irritates your nose and airways, hits the trigeminal nerve (that's the one for facial sensations), and kicks off a reflex that makes you breathe in hard and ramps up your sympathetic nervous system. That's why it hits so quick: you feel more alert, get that 'fight or flight' vibe, and sense you're ready to go. The science is based on long-time use and how it works, but let's be real—studies don't prove smelling salts boost max strength, power, or sports performance for sure. They do give a reliable quick arousal that lots of athletes love before big efforts.

The dose isn't listed, which is normal for these but still not fully transparent. With ammonia stuff, the real 'dose' is how close you hold it and how hard you inhale, not milligrams. The usual advice is to sniff from 4-6 inches away. That's important because it's an irritant, not a nutrient. More doesn't mean better; too much just feels worse.

Key Highlights

  • Ammonia-based smelling salts—this is all about fast sensory stimulation, not slow energy from drinks. It's way different from pre-workout powders: you feel it in seconds, not waiting for caffeine to kick in.
  • Hits the trigeminal nerve fast—ammonia vapor irritates your nose and airways, causing a reflex breath that spikes alertness and ramps up your nervous system. You notice that intense surge right away.
  • Made for the moment before your big effort—think of Bar Down as a ritual for heavy lifts or explosive moves. It doesn't replace basics like creatine, citrulline, carbs, or electrolytes.
  • No ammonia dose listed—that's typical for smelling salts, but it's a transparency downside. The real intensity comes from how you inhale it, not a number on the label.
  • Distance is key over exact amounts—standard tip for these is to inhale from 4-6 inches away. It's an irritant, so going too strong just adds discomfort without better results.
  • Hits you right away—unlike pills or drinks that need time to work, this is direct irritation. You feel that sharp wake-up in seconds.
  • Old-school category with not much proof for performance—ammonia inhalants have been around forever, even in medicine, but studies don't back big strength or power gains. Bottom line: it amps up your arousal reliably, but don't expect proven muscle boosts.
  • Fits high-intensity, short bursts best—like max lifts, explosive drills, or key moments. It's strong for that quick mental and physical shift right before you go hard.

Who Is This For?

  • Powerlifters hitting heavy singles, doubles, or top sets who need a quick arousal boost before unracking. Bar Down fits that short window where alertness beats pumps or long energy.
  • Strongman folks doing yoke walks, stone loads, deadlifts, or high-power moves where getting hyped is key. The quick ammonia jolt suits explosive stuff better than slow supps.
  • Hockey or football players wanting a fast wake-up before shifts, drills, or contact. It's about that sudden readiness kick, not hours of energy.
  • Gym vets on stim pre-workouts but wanting an extra tool for all-out sets. Ammonia inhales differently from powders, so it's a separate boost.
  • Athletes skipping more caffeine but needing intensity for max efforts. It gives a short edge in feel without another stim drink, but not real nutrition.
  • Competitors who get that smelling salts change your state, not load ingredients. They want seconds of alertness and know it's not for endurance or recovery.

How to Use

Hit Bar Down right before your effort, not 20-30 minutes early like pre-workouts. Start easy—hold 4-6 inches from your nose and inhale controlled; it's an irritant, so too close just amps discomfort. Newbies, test with a light sniff to check tolerance before going harder. No mixing or water needed since it's inhaled. Don't use it instead of hydration, carbs, creatine, or a full pre-workout. Mixing with caffeine can feel way stronger even if they work differently. No real cycling required, but saving it for big sets keeps it special. Store sealed, upright if needed, and cool to keep it fresh and avoid spills.

What to Expect

Minutes 0-1: It kicks in right after you inhale with a strong nose hit and wakeful feel. Minutes 1-5: Alertness peaks with that 'on' vibe you want before a big effort. Minutes 5-15: The strongest part fades, but some readiness might stick around short-term. Minutes 15-60: No long curve like from caffeine or other supps; it's for bursts. Days 1-7: Figure out your distance and tolerance, not building up ingredients. Weeks 2-4: No stacking effect since ammonia doesn't build in your body. It's always just a tool for that moment.

Key Ingredients

  • Ammonia — Amount not disclosed — Immediate inhalant-driven alertness before heavy or explosive efforts
  • Sodium — Amount not disclosed — Listed formula component, not a meaningful standalone electrolyte feature

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is Obsidian Ammonia | Bar Down?

It is a smelling salts inhalant built around ammonia, not a traditional oral supplement. Its purpose is to create a rapid, short-lived increase in alertness through inhalation right before a heavy lift, explosive effort, or competition moment.

How fast does Bar Down work?

Very fast. Because ammonia acts through direct sensory irritation in the nasal and respiratory tract, most users notice the effect within seconds rather than waiting for digestion and absorption like they would with a pre-workout drink.

Does this product actually improve strength or power?

The honest answer is that research has not conclusively shown smelling salts directly improve maximal strength or power output. What they clearly do is create a brief sympathetic arousal response that many athletes subjectively find useful before high-effort attempts.

How close should I hold it to my nose?

A practical guideline for ammonia inhalants is roughly 4-6 inches from the nose. Closer exposure increases irritation quickly, and this category is not one where more intense exposure automatically means better performance.

Is the ammonia dose disclosed?

No. The available label data confirms ammonia is present, but the exact amount is not disclosed. That is common in this category, though it is less transparent than fully dosed sports nutrition formulas.

Does the listed sodium make this a hydration product?

No. Sodium is listed, but the amount and form are not disclosed, so it should not be treated as a meaningful electrolyte feature. This is an inhalant product first and foremost.

Can I use Bar Down with a caffeinated pre-workout?

Yes, many experienced users pair smelling salts with caffeine-based pre-workouts, but the combination can feel much more intense. Caffeine provides longer-duration central stimulation, while ammonia provides an immediate short-lived arousal spike right before effort.

Is this good for beginners?

Generally no. The harsh sensory profile and abrupt sympathetic response make this better suited to experienced users who already understand what smelling salts are and how their body reacts to them.

Do I need to use it every day for results?

No. There is no loading period or tissue saturation effect with ammonia inhalants. You use it situationally when you want the immediate alertness response.

What should I expect to feel?

Expect a sharp nasal and airway sensation followed almost immediately by a hard wake-up effect. The experience is intense but brief, making it most useful right before a specific effort rather than as an all-workout support product.

budget friendly for dogs who lose balls in the creek
Color: Multi Squeaker Balls, Size: Medium, Style: 4-Pack
Not great quality, but works for our needs. I have a ball crazy lab. She loves for me to throw a ball using the Chuck-it Ball Launcher. We do this in our wide back yard that butts up to a creek. At some point during her run and fetch, she will take a quick detour right into the creek. She nearly always still has the ball, but once in awhile it is lost. Not wanting to chance it on more pricy (and more durable) balls, I get these or something like these. They dont cost much, yet they do the job. I' not upset if one gets sacrificed to the creek waters and mud. Since the balls end up getting wet often, they will kinda fall apart over time (chasing, kicking, throwing, retrieving, dog saliva etc). But she doesn't chew on them. Glad she doesnt as tennis balls arent good on teeth, but even if it was ok, the balls probably would be breached easily. SO get these if you are like me and want a ball that does the job but arent a total financial loss if get lost or destroyed. For indoor play we and by we I mean our 3 dogs demand that we use the rubbery max glow chuck-it ball. And will ignore this style ball. Yes, I am well trained. lol

These balls SUCK! External squeakers, minimal bounce and blue that is too dark.
Color: Multi Squeaker Balls, Size: X-Small, Style: 8-Pack
We have 2 little dogs in our home - a 1.5 year old Pomsky, and a 9 year old Pekingese. My Peke has shown no interest in tennis balls for years, until today! Imagine my excitement! Until she promptly destroyed the first squeaker on one of the blue balls. When I removed it, she began peeling the logos off the ball, and then started tearing the fuzz off! My dog has never destroyed any toy in her life, so this was shocking! Then the Pomsky decided that she wanted to play fetch with the new balls - she has Golden Retriever energy - and decided to destroy a squeaker in the midst of playing! She also wasn't nearly as interested in these tennis balls as her other tennis balls that she inherited from my Peke. 1. STUPID design, with the squeakers sticking out of the balls (the don't sit flush), so they are asking to get chewed or pulled out by any dog, even elderly 10 lb dogs! And a 9 lb young adult. 2. They are difficult to squeak compared to their Kong tennis balls, hence why the Pomsky wasn't interested for long. 3. They don't bounce as much as the Kong tennis balls, either, which made them less than exciting for the athletic and agile Pomsky. Meh. We wanted to get the smallest tennis balls we could get (1.5 inch) because neither dog will play with the 2 inch or bigger ones, but we also wanted to get colors they could easily see! The Pomsky clearly prefers the yellow balls to any other color (red, orange, green, darker blue, watermelon design), so we wanted to get like a bright blue or turquoise couple of balls to appeal to them! Well, my senior Peke liked the blue ones the most, but also liked the red and orange. Pomsky didn't like the blue ones. I think they're too dark of a blue to be easily seen in our home afternoons and evenings in the winter. We love Outward Hound toys in our house, but these were an expensive FLOP. They are the right size, but WHY did they put the squeakers so visible and appealing to dogs? I've never seen the squeaker in the Kong tennis balls. My advice is that Kong seems to make the best tennis balls for toy breeds, in the 1.5" size. Outward Hound dropped the ball here... no pun intended. The blue is darker than the photos depict (may be better in natural sunlight outdoors), the squeakers are external, and they barely bounce at all. Our next step will be to get the pressurized bright blue tennis balls from another brand, in hopes that the bounce and visibility will outweigh the lack of squeakiness. If those don't work, I guess we'll stick to the classic neon yellow Kong tennis balls! At my local Target, they only have multicolor packs of them, and the dark blue, red and green get completely ignored. *Dogs can only see shades of blues, yellows and black, grey and white. While some dogs may not seem to care about color, our Pomsky clearly does. :(

My Dog Loves Them
Color: Multi Squeaker Balls, Size: Small, Style: 8-Pack
These cute little squeaky balls are the perfect size for my Shih Tzu. She loves to chew on them and make them squeak all the time, so they are durable. I would purchase them again.

Not super durable but good squeak while they work
Color: Multi Squeaker Balls, Size: Large, Style: 4-Pack
My dog loves these but they break very quickly. I've got an older set that was incredibly durable, but these all stopped squeaking/got holes after the first or second play session
