ARTIST BIO

Dave Pollot is a New York based artist who is known for his altered thrift art paintings.  He finds unwanted artwork and adds his own touch – most often pop culture parodies – and in doing so, bridges the divide between classic and pop art.

His artwork has been displayed and found homes in galleries, businesses, and private collections in all 50 states and in over 40 countries around the globe.  His work has attracted attention from the media both in the U.S. and abroad, including Business Insider, Instagram, and the SyFy Channel, and his corporate clients include SONY, Instagram, and McDonalds among others.

When he’s not painting, he can be found spending time with his wife and two dogs.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“Painting has always been something of a hobby to me, but it wasn’t until I started repurposing thrift art in 2012 that I did it with any real consistency.  The idea actually began as a joke between my wife (who loves to shop at thrift stores) and I, but it quickly evolved into an attempt to answer a question:  Could I take a piece of unwanted art, and without changing its aesthetic, change its meaning by painting into it some bit of pop culture/nostalgia and make it desirable in the modern world?  Since that time, I’ve also started to explore a number of more personal themes in my work.  For example, using popular food items inserted into still life paintings to represent the distractions (both mental and material) that prevent us from being present and focused on where we are and what we’re doing.

Painting has now become something of an obsession for me.  If I spend too much time away from my easel, I find that I start to get very restless – I like to describe it as itchy blood.  As much as I’ve always loved to paint, I found that I often lost interest in whatever it was that I was working on before it was ever close to being finished.  Reworking found art turned out to be the answer to this problem.  Each new piece presents a new set of challenges, and learning to work in a variety of styles and master new techniques has kept my attention.  It’s also an interesting challenge to develop a narrative and tell a story with a painting – the backgrounds provide the framework I use to build a story.

I’ve always loved the idea that art is deeply personal.  I’m telling my own story with each piece, but every one is a little bit like a mirror, reflecting it’s meaning back to the viewer through his or her individual perception.  More generally speaking however, there are a number of recurring questions and ideas that my work often deals with.  I think that my body of work has challenged the idea that any one piece of artwork is without a place, especially if it can be retrofitted to reflect a more culturally relevant set of ideas.  It’s also questioned the idea of who (generationally and otherwise) can claim ownership of the pop culture of a given time period – it’s sought to introduce a younger audience to older artistic styles, and a potentially older audience to a broader set of pop culture.”

Room Divider That Gives Instant “This Is a Separate Space Now” Energy
Size: 3 Panel 12FT W
The Siebwin 3 Panel Folding Privacy Screen is surprisingly effective at changing the feel of a room without requiring construction, commitment, or somebody yelling about load bearing walls. The 12 foot width gives a substantial amount of coverage, making it useful for creating privacy, dividing open areas, blocking visual clutter, or setting up temporary sections within larger rooms. This saved us a ton of time and money in our new studio and enabled us to create a kitchen and office in one room. The wider feet make a huge difference because flimsy room dividers that collapse every time someone exhales too aggressively are deeply annoying. This one feels more stable and grounded once positioned. The folding design makes it easy to move around or adjust depending on the space, and it folds down relatively compactly when not in use. It is basically the introvert curtain wall of dreams. The material has a clean, neutral look that blends well into different room styles without screaming “temporary office cubicle panic.” It works well for apartments, studios, shared spaces, dressing areas, or simply hiding the mountain of chaos you swear you are going to organize tomorrow. Practical, portable, and refreshingly easy to use without turning setup into a three hour emotional event.

It's 2 panels holding 1 big privacy screen. Can't use as 2 separate 4' panels, but works great.
Size: 2 Panel 8FT W
This 2 panel privacy screen works well. Assembly was very straight forward, with easily labeled tubes. My son and I had it together in about 10 minutes, which was probably 3 minutes of me telling him to quit playing around and hand me the parts. It feels very sturdy, not likely to fall over or anything. The material fits well, with the Velcro being very strong. Measurements are all very accurate, with all pieces attaching properly. We have a similar privacy screen at work that we have to try and stretch out because the top and bottom Velcro doesn't fit quite right... this model does not have any issues though. The material is thin and light weight, but solid black so that you can't see anything through or behind it. I definitely think it's a great deal for the money. What I think would have given it 5 stars though, is if you had 2 totally separate 4' panels instead of 2 panels with one big screen. It really wouldn't cost any extra to make it so that the screen was in 2 pieces and you could use it as 2 separate panels instead of having to use it as one big panel. It says 2 panel folding privacy screens, but it's really one big one that folds in the middle.

Good value for the money.
Color: Black, Size: 6 Panel
This partition package is a great value. I looked at many options and this one had long length to cover an entire room with the six partitions. The pieces went together easily, took about 30 minutes to assemble and has the needed Allen wrench included. It is stable with no fear of being easily knocked down. The black fabric does not completely hide everything and if there is a light on the inside, it can illuminate what is going on. It does the job but if you wanted complete privacy you would need thicker material. Overall it does what I need in that it make a TV room into a kind of guest room of sorts.

Worked amazing during christmas
Color: Black, Size: 6 Panel
We had a ton of people over for Christmas so I had to make an extra place for someone to sleep so I used these and surrounded an air mattress and made a small shelter basically. The dividers are light but sturdy , not heavy duty of course but not expected for this price. They do an excellent job of blocking out light and are not see thru and worked very well. Assembly was straight forward and even comes with an included wrench but I used my own to speed the process. 100% satisfied

Satisfactory
Color: Black, Size: 6 Panel
Everything was advertised. But the box it was shipped in was torn up pretty bad and taped up to compensate. Nevertheless, the product itself was not damaged.
