Today, the doctrine of the beatific vision has been woefully forgotten within the church and its theology. Yet, throughout history Christians have always held that the blessed hope of heaven lies in seeing and being in the presence of God, of beholding the beatific vision. With lucidity and breadth, Parkison reintroduces the beatific vision and affirms its centrality for the life of the church today. Parkison argues for the beatific vision's biblical foundations and reminds us—through close readings of theologians such as Anselm of Canterbury, Thomas Aquinas, Dante, Gregory Palamas, John Calvin, and Jonathan Edwards—of the doctrine's historical and contemporary significance. The beatific vision is about seeing God, and as Christians have acknowledged across the tradition, seeing God is our ultimate end.

______________

Samuel G. Parkison (PhD Midwestern Seminary) is Associate Professor of Theological Studies at Gulf Theological Seminary in the United Arab Emirates. He is the author of several books, including Proclaiming the Triune God: The Doctrine of the Trinity in the Life of the Church (co-author), as well as Thinking Christianly: Bringing Sundry Thoughts Captive to Christ, and Irresistible Beauty: Beholding Triune Glory in the Face of Jesus Christ.

______________

"This overview of the history of Christian reflection on the beatific vision is an extremely important study, for it rightly reveals the central place that the hunger to gaze upon God has had in Christian tradition. But this is a hunger that far too many Western evangelicals in this 'Secular Age,' as Charles Taylor has termed it, seem to have lost and even rejected as pie-in-the-sky pietism. May this study be used by God to reawaken this hunger and so empower our witness to the ever-present God in this day!" Michael Haykin, professor of church history at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Works great.
Color: 7-in-1 Silver & Black/Beer Opener, Size: Rechargeable Set
Bottle opener works great and is easy to recharge. I removed one star because we are struggling with the included bottle stoppers. We can get them on the bottle but when we go to remove the device (that sucks the air out) often times -the stopper pulls out of the bottle. I really don’t like the stoppers. They seem very cheap. I will need to go on search for better quality stopper.

Worked twice then died within 3 months
Color: 7-in-1 Silver & Black/Beer Opener, Size: Rechargeable Set
The set is nice, looks good, well organized. The features are simple and the main opener looks and feels sturdy. However, roughly half the corks just get torn and don’t extract. Had 3 or less successes with as many failures. We only drink a few bottles a month at most. Now the unit just completely stops almost as quickly as it starts. You can reverse the screw to get it out when it stops and the motor seems fine when not pressed against a bottle/cork. The way it stops almost immediately when fully charged and cool means it isn’t an overheating issue or weak battery issue from what I can tell. Very disappointed and wished I’d returned it the minute I had the first issue. I thought it might just be me not holding it firmly enough or needing to learn some trick, but it was definitely the unit going bad. Buyer beware.
