Algae Blenny Salarius RamosusOverview:
The Salarias ramosus, affectionately known as the Algae Blenny or the Starry Blenny, is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. Renowned for its unique starry pattern and engaging personality, this blenny is not only a diligent algae eater but also a source of endless entertainment for aquarists. Reaching up to 5 inches in length, it's the perfect size for most community tanks.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, the Algae Blenny thrives in reef environments. Its natural habitat ranges from shallow lagoons to coral-rich slopes, where it blends seamlessly among rocks and corals.
Feeding:
A herbivore at heart, the Algae Blenny primarily feeds on various types of algae. In the aquarium, its diet should be supplemented with high-quality marine algae, spirulina, and vegetable-based foods to ensure optimal health and coloration. Occasional offerings of meaty foods can add variety to its diet.
Tank Mates:
The Algae Blenny is generally peaceful and can coexist with a wide variety of fish. Ideal tank mates include small to medium-sized, non-aggressive fish. However, care should be taken to avoid housing them with large, predatory fish or other territorial blennies which could lead to conflict.
Aggression:
While mostly peaceful, the Algae Blenny can exhibit territorial behavior towards its own kind or similar-looking species. It is best kept as the only blenny in the tank unless the aquarium is large enough to accommodate multiple territories.
Experience Level:
This species is suitable for aquarists of all levels, from beginner to expert. Its hardiness and adaptability make it an excellent choice for those new to marine aquarium keeping, while its personality and ecological role in algae control appeal to seasoned enthusiasts.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 72-78°F (22-25.5°C)
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Salinity: 1.020-1.025
- Ammonia/Nitrite: 0
- Nitrate: <20 ppm
Bring the intriguing world of the reef into your home with the Algae Blenny, a true gem among marine aquarium fishes.

Great books, but the Rumble book is the best!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
These books are great books and are filled with tons of mammal, animal, and insect facts. However, after buying several, I realized I was buying the wrong books. This is because we wanted the bracket based “who would win” books. They are the best ones! Apparently, the bracket-based books have “rumble” in the title. The pictures will show the difference. There are only two rumble books, 1 of which will be released Oct 7th.
