Reliable Thermal Monitoring for WS500 Charge Optimisation

The Wakespeed 3m WS500 Battery/Alternator Temperature Sensor is a critical component for any advanced 12V, 24V or 48V electrical system utilising the Wakespeed WS500 Advanced Alternator Regulator. Designed to accurately monitor the temperature of either your battery bank or your alternator, this sensor ensures your charging system operates safely and at peak efficiency. By providing real-time thermal data directly to the regulator, it enables dynamic adjustments to charge profiles, protecting your valuable equipment from thermal damage while maximising energy storage.

Essential Protection for High-Output Alternators

Modern high-output alternators, particularly those paired with lithium battery banks, are subjected to immense stress. Lithium batteries are capable of accepting maximum charge current for extended periods, unlike traditional lead-acid batteries that taper their current draw as they reach a high state of charge. This continuous high-current demand generates significant heat within the alternator casing. By installing this alternator temperature sensor, the WS500 regulator can actively monitor the casing temperature and automatically derate the alternator's current output if it approaches unsafe thermal limits. This vital feature significantly reduces the risk of catastrophic alternator failure and extends the operational lifespan of your charging hardware.

Precision Battery Temperature Compensation

Accurate battery temperature monitoring is equally critical for optimal charge control, particularly for lead-acid and non-CAN enabled LiFePO4 battery technologies. When used as a battery temperature sensor, it allows the WS500 to dynamically adjust the absorption charge voltage. For lead-acid chemistries, the regulator will lower the voltage as the ambient temperature increases, preventing overcharging and extending battery life. Furthermore, if the battery temperature exceeds or falls below pre-configured safety thresholds, the regulator will safely reduce or completely halt the charging current.

For non-CAN lithium systems, the sensor acts as a vital safeguard, entirely stopping the charge process during extreme temperature events, such as freezing conditions, where charging could cause irreversible damage to the internal cells.

Redundancy for CAN-Bus Enabled Lithium Systems

While advanced CAN-enabled LiFePO4 batteries rely on their internal Battery Management System (BMS) to broadcast charge parameters and temperature warnings directly to the WS500, incorporating an external temperature sensor is highly recommended as a fail-safe measure. In the unlikely event of a CAN communication failure or BMS malfunction, the Wakespeed 3m WS500 Battery/Alternator Temperature Sensor allows the WS500 to fall back on accurate local temperature readings, ensuring the charging process continues safely without risking damage to the battery bank.

Robust Construction for Harsh Environments

Engineered for durability in challenging marine and automotive environments, the sensor features a high-quality, fully insulated cable. The versatile 3-metre cable provides ample reach for typical engine bays and power compartments.

One end of the harness is terminated with an 8mm eyelet ring terminal. Because there is no electrical connection between the internal thermistor and the metal lug, the terminal can be safely secured directly to positive or negative battery posts, or bolted straight onto the alternator casing. The opposite end is fitted with a weatherproof Superseal 1.5 connector, complete with a protective blue boot, ensuring a secure, moisture-resistant connection to the WS500 wiring harness.

Key Features

  • Provides real-time thermal data to the Wakespeed WS500 Advanced Alternator Regulator
  • Prevents alternator overheating by enabling dynamic current output derating
  • Allows voltage compensation for lead-acid batteries to prevent overcharging
  • Stops charging in extreme temperatures to protect non-CAN lithium batteries
  • Acts as a critical backup sensor for CAN-enabled LiFePO4 systems
  • Features an isolated 8mm ring terminal for safe mounting on live posts or ground points
  • Equipped with a sealed, weatherproof connector for robust marine and RV installations

Protect your high-value power generation and storage components with precise thermal management. Upgrade your system with the Wakespeed 3m WS500 Battery/Alternator Temperature Sensor today and ensure your WS500 regulator has the critical data it needs to perform flawlessly.

There have to be other places to save on your camping budget
Style: 15' Rhino Sewer Hose
After 5 years of regular use with my original Camco RhinoFLEX sewer hose, I decided to proactively get another one and retire the OG to the inside of the bumper to keep as an emergency use hose. Did I consider purchasing other brands and hoses to save a few $$$? Yes I did. Then I thought about never having to clean up a stinky black tank mess and promptly bought another one. If it ain't broke - or hasn't broke after five years of use - then don't fix it, and by that I mean don't overthink it. RhinoFLEX FTW.

Awesome filter! Nasty campground water no longer...
Style: Standard Filter
I have run these for years in my RV and they work killer! Here's some more in-depth thoughts: Pros: - These work better than I had expected. Just hook them up to the water source, hook your hose to it, run it to your trailer and viola` clean and good tasting water. Some of the places we have visited have had water that I wouldn't feed to my worst enemy. With this thing attached, it's very good tasting. - I like the hose attachment that comes with this to aide in adding flexibility to the system and not put too much strain on the system. I have bought so many of these, I now use one attaching the filter to the nozzle, one out of the filter to my hose, and one attaching my hose to the trailer. Notes: - I will note that the manufacturer suggesting using these for only 1 camping season, and this makes sense. That's what I do, and it seems to work out great. It's not too much $ to replace every season. - Another note, when first putting this filter into service (just the first time of the season, subsequent hook-ups wont do this) there will be a bunch of carbon (black in the water) that comes out of the faucet in your trailer. This is perfectly fine, safe, and of no issue. This is the filter breaking in and getting the extra carbon out of the system. There is no health concern with this happening. I just run the faucet until it clears up, and then we're good to go for the rest of the season. - Last note, when we unhook from our camping spot, I swing the filter in my hand with my arm extended (using centrifugal force, not centrifical, look it up) to get the residual water out of the filter so it doesn't sit in there and spoil. I do this until I get most of the water drops to stop, leave it out on the counter to dry, and boom, it's perfect the next time. Cons: - None to report Overall this filter does a great job taking care of some seriously nasty campground water that we've encountered all over the Southwest US. I cannot recommend it any higher. Clean, Great-Tasting Water Made Easy with Camco Tastepure
Style: Standard Filter
I installed the Camco Tastepure RV inline water filter on our rig, and it’s another example of why I’ve come to trust Camco products. The reinforced strain relief hose is a small but incredibly smart feature—it keeps the connection between the filter, hose, and RV kink-free and easy to manage. Setup was simple, and the whole system feels sturdy and well-designed. A tip I’ve learned through experience: before putting a new filter into service, run water through the internal charcoal filter for 30 - 45 seconds. This flushes out any loose charcoal bits and ensures the first water you drink is crystal clean and tastes amazing. After that, connecting to the RV is straightforward, and you immediately notice how much better the water tastes. Whether filling up a glass or cooking, it’s made a real difference in our RV experience. Reliable, easy to use, and excellent tasting water every time - I highly recommend this to any RV owner who cares about water quality on the road.

works well for camping
Style: Standard Filter
I’ve used this filter on my camper for years without issues, so I installed one in my outdoor kitchen at home. It was connected to a hose bib and left under constant pressure, feeding a small electric water heater for a sink. That turned out to be a mistake. Overnight, the top of the filter housing cracked and leaked water throughout the cabinet. No idea how long it was spraying. This filter works fine for intermittent use (like camping), but it does not appear to be designed for continuous pressure. I would not recommend installing it in a permanent, always-pressurized setup.
