Vineyard: The grapes for this wine were sourced entirely from Hopkins River Ranch in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Bob Hopkins has been farming wine grapes on his family’s ranch off Eastside Road since the 1970s. We have been lucky enough to purchase S.B. from Bob since 2013. We made this wine from a block of clone 1 Sauvignon Blanc that was planted in 2016. 2024 was our fourth year sourcing from this block, and we were able to pick the grapes with moderate brix levels and achieve Sauvignon Blanc flavors with low alcohol and great acidity.
Vintage: The 2024 harvest was an ideal growing season, especially in the weeks leading up to harvest when cooler temperatures prevailed. We started to see mature flavors as the brix approached 20-21 and decided to harvest shortly thereafter, capturing great natural acidity. The finished wine expresses tropical fruit flavors, noted citrus, and subtle grassy notes typical of the variety. We fermented and aged in a combination of older oak (58%) and stainless steel barrels (42%).
Winemaking
- No malolactic fermentation
- 600 cases were bottled on January 29, 2024
- Alcohol: 13.0% pH: 3.30 T.A.: 6.0 g/L
Tasting Notes: Our Sauvignon Blanc offers vibrant aromas of jasmine, orange blossom, and floral notes. On the palate, the wine enters with juicy acidity and follows with a broad mouthfeel and subtle creaminess. The flavors of pink grapefruit, lemon sherbet, and honeydew melon complement this refreshing, balanced wine.
