Inspired by the 2024 McLaren Formula One Grand Prix car.

This Alastair Gibson sculpture is a smaller version of the original ‘carbon dory’ sculpture which was produced from a commission by the Drang Gallery in Padstow, Cornwall, the UK home of the John Dory fish. It moves away from the usual fast streamlined fish that I sculpt and shows the stylish details of this ancient oceanic creature.

Selected parts and materials used in this Carbon Art 45 sculpture are from modern Grand Prix cars as listed below.

Sculpture limited to 25 pieces.

Body: Carbon fibre, 2 ply/layers 2 x 2 twill 200 gsm with UV resistant clear matte coating.

Dorsal and underside fins: Silver coated 0.5 mm photo etched stainless steel.

Tail and Pectoral fins: Silver coated 0.5 mm photo etched stainless steel.

Marking detail: Silver standard Dory details with custom designed 2024 McLaren vinyl transfer.

Mounting base and rod: Mounted on a black coated wooden base with yellow Pirelli tyre ID logo and a gear or wheel nut from a modern Formula One GP car and stainless steel rod. *

*Base options include your choice of an F1 Gear or an F1 Wheel Nut with varying part numbers and signs of wear

Mounting methods: Desk mounted.

Dimensions: L 140 mm W 30 mm H 370 mm on base.

If you're looking at reviews for this book then you're likely looking for some insight into the college process on a deeper level than surface-level advice. During those four years, and since, he has frequently referenced this book, and its author, whose other books he later read, as having been his primary source of guidance about how to handle his undergraduate life.
