Zinkanodes worden voornamelijk gebruikt in zeewater en brak water. Zinkanoden kunnen worden gebruikt in brak water als de weerstand niet te hoog is (ongeveer 1,5 Ωm). Zink is chemisch stabieler dan aluminium en geniet daarom bij velen de voorkeur in omgevingen met licht brak water.
