Echter, onderschat haar witte wijnen en rode wijnen niet. Portugal heeft dan niet de bekendheid van grote wijnlanden, qua aantal hectare wijngaarden doet zij niet onder voor wijnlanden als Chili, Argentinië en Duitsland. Door het enorm warme klimaat; in de zomermaanden kan het overdag makkelijk 30 graden of meer worden, zijn de wijnen erg geconcentreerd en stevig. Met de name de rode wijnen geven het temperament wat je mag verwachten van een wijn uit Portugal. Vandaar dat Dom Martinho Rood al jaren een groot succes is gebleken in ons assortiment.

De inheemse druivenrassen van Portugal

De Portugese wijnbouw wordt gekenmerkt door een groot aantal gebruik van lokale druivenrassen, zoals ook bij deze Dom Martinho Rood het geval is. Echter gebruikt het wijnhuis Dom Martinho voor deze rode wijn ook Internationaal bekende rassen. Zo is er een prominente rol weggelegd voor de cabernet sauvignon en de Aragonez. De arogonez lijkt vrij onbekend, echter is de de Portugses equivalent van de alom bekende tempranillo. Daarnaast drukken de lokale variëteiten Alicante Bouschet en Trincadeira duidelijk hun stempel op Dom Martinho Rood. Een perfect uitgebalanceerde blend van de wijnmaker bij Dom Martinho.

Indrukken van Dom Martinho Rood

Deze rode wijn uit Portugal staat voor puur vakmanschap. Het klopt helemaal, vanaf de eerst slok tot de allerlaatste druppel. De druiven worden allemaal apart behandeld en worden daarna, na veel geëxperimenteer, samengevoegd tot deze klassieker van Portugese bodem. Voordat de flessen gebotteld worden rijpt het sap nog 6 tot 9 maanden op RVS tanks. Het duurt even, maar dan heb je ook wat. Met aroma's van rode bessen, kersen, aardbeien en jam vindt er een ware smaakexplosie plaats bij je smaakpapillen. Het evenwichtige karakter van het fruitige met de zuurgraad is haast legendarisch te noemen.

A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
