De kastanjechampignon (Agaricus bisporus var. hortensis) is het smaakvollere broertje van de witte champignon. Zijn lichtbruine hoed en iets stevigere structuur geven hem een rijke, nootachtige smaak die tijdens het koken goed behouden blijft. Omdat deze biologische champignons zonder chemische bestrijdingsmiddelen of kunstmest worden geteeld, proef je hun volle, pure karakter nog beter. Kastanjechampignons bevatten veel voedingsvezels en antioxidanten, waardoor ze niet alleen lekker maar ook gezond zijn.

Deze kweekset maakt het kweken van kastanjechampignons eenvoudig en leuk. Het substraat is al volledig ingeënt met mycelium – je hoeft alleen de bovenlaag te activeren door deze licht vochtig te maken en de bak op een donkere, koele plek te zetten. Binnen enkele dagen zie je de eerste knoppen verschijnen en na zo’n twee weken kun je je eerste champignons oogsten. De set levert vaak meerdere flushes op, zodat je langer plezier hebt van je eigen oogst.

Kastanjechampignons zijn een echte smaakmaker in de keuken. Ze zijn ideaal om te bakken op hoog vuur, waarbij ze een volle, hartige smaak ontwikkelen.
