Deze Reserve serie van Domaine Bousquet is voller en romiger dan zijn jongere broer. Met deze wijn wil wijnmaker Jean Bousquet een licht hout gelagerde Chardonnay wijn maken met behoud van de frisheid van de Chardonnay druif. De wijngaard voor deze Chardonnay is eveneens gevestigd in Tupungato Uco Valley in Mendoza. Alleen zijn de ranken vele malen ouder en geven krachtigere en vollere trossen aan de wijnmaker. Op een hoogte van wel vier duizend voet staat de Chardonnay wijngaard in de krachtige zon van Argentinië. Maar dat is geen probleem voor de ranken want die hebben inmiddels diepe wortels die veel vocht kunnen opnemen uit de kalk rijke bodem. Jean Bousquet is tros op zijn oude wijngaard want deze geeft na alle inspanningen in de wijngaard precies wat hij nodig heeft.

Houtlagering voor de Bousquet Reserve Chardonnay

Door het perfecte klimaat met veel zonneschijn en de juiste frisheid door de wind en nacht temperatuur rijpen de Chardonnay druiven geweldig. Bij de perfecte rijpheid worden ze zeer streng geselecteerd om enkel de beste trossen te verkrijgen. Ze worden geheel met de hand geoogst en in kleine kratjes naar de pers gebracht. Bij aankomst laat Jean Bousquet de pers voorzichtig zijn werk doen waarna het goud gele sap wordt opgevangen in houten vaten. Niet de volledige wijn, maar voor vijftig procent krijgt deze Chardonnay een lagering op eiken houten fusten. Hierdoor wordt hij krachtig en zeer verfijnd in zowel de geur als de smaak.

De geur en smaak van de Bousquet Chardonnay Reserve

Strogeel van kleur met een tint van lime. In de geur heeft deze Chardonnay Reserve een bijzonder goede aromatische intensiteit van tropische vruchten, peer, kokos en vanille met hints van citrus en florale tonen. In de smaak heeft deze Bousquet Chardonnay Reserve een vleug van groene appel en peren met zachte kruidige tonen. De zijdezachte smaak heeft voldoende dikte en een verfrissende zuurgraad. Het hout is mooi geïntegreerd.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
