Bij je voordeur, in je achtertuin, naast je pompoenen en kalebassen, deze Skimmia (voluit Skimmia japonica ‘Pabella’) brengt meteen warmte en kleur, waar je hem ook neerzet. De bessen verkleuren in de herfst van groen naar felrood. Je kunt er lang van genieten, want in tegenstelling tot andere besdragende planten zijn vogels en kleine tuindieren geen grote liefhebbers van de besjes. De plant wordt maximaal 100-125 centimeter hoog en kan zowel in de volle grond als in potten, bakken en kuipen. Zet je hem in een pot, zorg dan voor voldoende afwatering: te veel vocht is een van de weinige dingen waar Skimmia niet tegen kan.  
SKIMMA ALS HOLLANDS GLORIE  Skimmia behoort tot de wijnruitfamilie (Rutaceae) waar ook citrusboompjes deel van uitmaken. Die verwantschap is terug te vinden in de blaadjes: als je die kneust, komt er een citrusgeur vrij. In het wild groeit Skimmia in de bossen van China en andere delen van Azië, zoals de Himalaya. Deze mooie bessendrager is echter ontstaan in een Nederlandse kas. Wil je de plant in je tuin laten gedijen, dan moet je bij een paar dames Skimmia een heer plaatsen, die voor bestuiving kan zorgen. De mannetjesplant is het beste te herkennen aan zijn vorm: de bloei is iets forser en de bloemetjes hebben stampers. 
SKIMMIA TRIVIA  De eerste Skimmia kwam in 1838 naar Europa en belandde in de kassen van Kew Gardens. De Latijnse naam is in 1784 afgeleid van ‘miyama shikimi’, de Japanse term voor Skimmia.  
VERZORGINGSTIPS Skimma staat het liefst in de schaduw, dan ontwikkelen de bessen zich het best.   De plant heeft een voorkeur voor een lichtzure bodem, zoals rododendrongrond. Worden de blaadjes geel, dan is de grond niet zuur genoeg. Skimmia houdt niet van natte voeten en is daarom graag de buurman van bomen, die veel vocht uit de bodem opnemen. Snij liever geen takken van de plant, dat komt de volgende bloei niet ten goede. Skimmia is redelijk winterhard, je hoeft hem alleen bij strenge vorst te beschermen.

Fancy enough for a wedding, easy enough for a backyard party

I picked up this 300 Pack Premium Heavy Duty Gold Plastic Silverware set for a recent gathering, and honestly it worked out better than I expected. When you’re hosting a larger group, the last thing you want to worry about is running out of utensils or washing a mountain of dishes afterward, and this set definitely helped with that. First off, the 300-piece set is really convenient. You get 100 forks, 100 spoons, and 100 knives, which made it easy to plan for about 100 guests without having to buy multiple packs. Everything arrived neatly organized in a clear storage box, which actually made it super easy to keep things tidy until party time. The gold metallic finish is surprisingly nice. It gave the table a more polished, elegant look than standard plastic cutlery. I used them for a semi-formal dinner setup, and they blended in well with the decorations instead of looking cheap or out of place. As for durability, they’re definitely heavier than typical disposable utensils. The forks handled pasta and salads just fine, and the knives worked well for softer foods like chicken and cake. They’re not quite the same as real metal silverware, of course, but for plastic they’re pretty sturdy and didn’t snap or bend easily. I also appreciated that they’re BPA-free and disposable, which made cleanup incredibly simple once everything wrapped up. The only small downside is that if you’re cutting tougher foods like steak, you might notice the knives aren’t quite strong enough for that. But for most party foods, buffets, and desserts, they work perfectly well. Overall, this is a great option for parties, weddings, or large dinners when you want something that looks nicer than basic plastic but still want the convenience of disposable utensils. Amazing value, looks great - quite durable

Slight odor, more flexible than I expected

These looked like they were going to be heavy duty, but they were more flexible than I expected (see video clip). They probably still will work well, but if you’re poking your fork into something stiff, expect that the fork might bend some. There was a slight chemical odor when I opened the package, and I’m not a fan of that. As someone with MCS, I have to avoid exposure to fragrances and other harmful chemicals, and it makes me wonder what these are coated with. The gold might be cute for the aesthetic you’re going for with a particular gathering or party, but I find it unnecessary. I would rather go with the real heavy duty ones that are clear plastic from a club warehouse rather than these gold ones. I feel that these are overpriced for the quality, but not a bad price if all you’re going for is the gold aesthetic.

Nice, high end look, disposable

I hate to spend a lot of money on something that's just going to be thrown away, so typically buy dollar store disposable silverware for parties and gatherings. But every once in a while, you want something more upscale or high end looking. Enter this pricy but pretty plastic silverware. It is perfect for a wedding, anniversary, shower or other event where you want a nicer look instead of basic. It is sturdy. You won't have to worry about it breaking as someone spears a bite of chicken. It looks great! There's only so much you can do with plastic ware but for what it is, it looks really nice.
