Wilhelm diende bij Radfahr Ersatz Schwadron 69 tot 19-11-1940 vervolgens bij radfahr schwadron aufklarungs Abteilung 6 tot 25-01-1942. Hij wordt ingezet in Frankrijk (Küstenschütz kanalküste) vervolgens oostfront (operatie Barbarossa). Hij raakt 08-01-1942 gewond, granaatsplinter in schouder rug. 25-01-1942 overlijdt hij aan z’n verwondingen. Wilhelm is posthuum onderscheiden met het EK2, verwundeten abzeichen schwarz en de ostmedaille. Interessant detail is dat hij volleerd Panzerbüchse schütze was. Bij de set zijn verder wat betalingsbewijzen aanwezig en een brief gericht aan zijn vader, waarin wordt vermeld wat ze retour sturen aan persoonlijke bezittingen.
