De vlag van Jemen bestaat uit drie horizontale banen in rood, wit en zwart. Dit klassieke driekleurontwerp is geïnspireerd op de pan-Arabische kleuren en staat symbool voor eenheid, strijd en hoop in het land.

Symboliek en achtergrond

Rood vertegenwoordigt het bloed van martelaren en de strijd voor onafhankelijkheid, wit symboliseert de hoop op een vreedzame toekomst, en zwart verwijst naar het donkere verleden van onderdrukking. De vlag werd officieel aangenomen op 22 mei 1990, bij de eenwording van Noord- en Zuid-Jemen. Het ontwerp sluit aan bij andere Arabische staten die soortgelijke kleuren gebruiken als symbool van solidariteit en nationale trots.
