‘Bigarreau Napoléon’ is een klassiek zoete kers die in juni–juli grote, geel-roze vruchten geeft met stevig vruchtvlees en een sappige, aromatische smaak. Deze kerselaar groeit compact (ca. 3–4 m), is rijkdragend en ideaal voor in de tuin. De vruchten zijn heerlijk om vers te eten, maar ook uitstekend voor confituur of gebak. Voor een optimale opbrengst kan kruisbestuiving met een andere zure kersenvariëteit nuttig zijn of kies er voor om 2 bomen van dezelfde variëteit te planten.

Wat is een laagstam boom?
Laagstam betekent dat de boom geënt is op een traag groeiende onderstam waardoor de boompjes sneller vruchten dragen en minder hoog worden. De voordelen hiervan zijn dat ze geschikt zijn voor kleinere (moes)tuinen, dat je dus meer soorten in dezelfde ruimte kunt kweken. Ook is het handig dat je makkelijk, veilig en zonder lange ladder kunt oogsten.

Tips en verzorging:

  • Aanplanten: doordat de boompjes geleverd worden in pot kunnen ze het hele jaar door geplant worden. Plant bij voorkeur in het najaar, dan is de bodem nog warm en vochtig waardoor de boompjes goed zullen inwortelen in de bodem. Planten die in het najaar geplant zijn hebben een beter ontwikkeld wortelstelsel dan planten die pas in het voorjaar geplant worden. 
  • Volle grond of potten: je kan alle laagstam fruitbomen ook telen in potten, hoe groter de pot hoe beter ze het zullen doen. Ze zullen altijd beter groeien en meer vruchten produceren in de volle grond.
  • Steun: geef het eerste jaar steun met een paal. Laagstam bomen zijn makkelijk te plukken en blijven compact en goed beheersbaar.
