Een Holbein kleurpotlood is creamy, maar niet te zacht of hard. Qua hardheid zitten de potloden net tussen de Polychromos en Prisma potloden in. Het pigment in de potloden is prachtig én krachtig, zelfs in de zachtere pastelkleuren. Ze kleuren heerlijk op papier en blenden ook fijn. 

De potloden zijn goed lichtecht en op elk potlood wordt de mate aangegeven. Het midden van de kleurpotloden heeft een diameter van 3,8mm, het potlood heeft zelf een diameter van 7,8mm en is rond.
