About this piece:

By using unconventional methods like the integration of spray-paint in conjunction with charcoal and chalk, in a hyper realistic style, I have pushed this drawing to be more than a mere traditional drawing. My approach is aimed to depict Jesus as an ethereal being with a cooler and more reflective texture, even the background emanates in order to emphasize Jesus as a holy entity.

I believe the Holy Spirit inspired me to make this artwork. I have been going through a period of reconnecting to my source and what motivated me to start making art in the first place. When I saw the advertisement for this competition, I had no idea what I wanted to do, and a few weeks later, the image of Caravaggio's painting came up in a dream state, and it actually woke me up from my sleep. I knew I had to write down what I wanted to do for this project before I could go back to sleep. The image stuck in my mind and when I started working on my drawing, I found more closure.

About the Artist:

He's also garnered recognition on the global stage, with three of his artworks featured in the esteemed "One Hour With The Model" catalogue, published by Igor Yermakov in Ukraine.

Driven by an insatiable ambition, Quinton has taken up the mantle of leadership as the acting president of the international art collective, Apollo Queer Art, comprising talents from seven different countries. His exploration of various mediums, from oil and digital painting to charcoal and digital drawing, printmaking, and photography, serves as a captivating reflection of his emotions, experiences, and journey of self-discovery.

Quinton's art speaks boldly of his sexuality, challenges societal norms, and delves into the complexities of psychology. With an unwavering dedication to his craft since childhood, he has honed his talent, transforming it into a profound expression of his passion and purpose. Quinton's distinctive style marries emotional depth with hyperrealism, taking viewers on a vivid journey through monochromatic charcoal drawings, vibrant oil paintings, and evocative digital creations.

Started w/ audiobook, now I'm ordering the print too
Format: Paperback
This book is GREAT!! The integration of theory she uses to support her claims is masterful. I began listening to the audiobook, because it was cheaper & I go through a ton of counseling & psych books. I am a grad student in social work, and I'm also a therapy client trying to heal myself. I appreciate that this book targets "chronic shame" which as a central experience to a bunch of issues. The hundreds of books and articles I've researched seem like they were mostly ALL working back to this issue. In a psychology culture that is big on cognitive and chemical solutions to mental health, the relational approach that she emphasizes is critical to the healing process. I appreciate the research she uses from object relations, affect regulation, interpersonal, etc. I purchased the hard copy because 1. I can't underline/highlight an audiobook and 2. I want a copy of the references of theorists and study's that she draws from, because they are pure gold. All therapists need to understand the contents of this book! Unless you are perfectly fine offering band aid solutions. Clients and self-helpers beware. It's not triggering in terms of content, it is activating in the sense that she describes the felt experience of shame SO WELL. I could locate my own felt sense of shame which is, by default, unpleasant. Some stabilization and a decent therapeutic connection is probably necessary before cracking this book open. But that's why I love it. I needed to go deeper and get the core issues. And this book is like a map that guides you right to it.

One of the best books on shame out there
Format: Paperback
As a shame researcher and educator, I often refer to DeYoung's book because it is so full of resources and relational tools for clinicians and individuals relating to the neurobiology of shame. It is a very small book with A LOT of information. Many references to the shame research and suggestions for treating shame in clinical practice from a perspective of right brain relationship dynamics. Thank you Patricia!

Highly recommend.
Format: Paperback
One of the most helpful, lucid, and comprehensive books on shame I've encountered. This was required reading for graduate school and is now one of my most returned to, dog-eared, and referenced books. Can't recommend enough.
