For decades, character-driven stories were reserved for literary fiction, while commercial fiction was typically occupied by stories written with more emphasis on plot. With the ever-changing nature of the literary market and audience demands, commercial fiction is experiencing a character writing renaissance. Themes focused on character development, such as found families and coming-of-age adventures, are beloved among sci-fi and fantasy readers. The squeaky-clean action hero has been eclipsed by the anti-hero, and one-dimensional villains are losing ground to antagonists the audience can’t help sympathizing with. The Character Driven Bundle includes character writing guidelines, tips, and inspiration from bestselling authors, for writers of all genres—from commercial fiction to upmarket to literary. Valued at $655.90, these eight OnDemand webinars and two Writer’s Digest digital editions are now available for 90% off their original price as part of this deal. Don’t keep your characters waiting! Save money and learn the ins and outs of writing the character-driven story with the Character-Driven Bundle.

Products included in the bundle:

What Do Your Characters Want? Using Highly Motivated Characters to Drive Stronger Stories

In this OnDemand webinar, you'll learn how to leverage your characters' goals and desires from Page 1 to get readers to quickly invest in their journeys, eager to come along for the ride. With plenty of examples from bestsellers across genres, you’ll see how focusing on character motivations as a guiding principle can not only bring your story’s central players to life, but add propulsion to your plot, raise and complicate the stakes, and elevate the themes of your story. Writing Characters Outside of Your Personal Experience

This OnDemand webinar will explore research methods, ethical considerations, and narrative techniques to avoid harmful stereotypes while embracing complexity. We’ll discuss the balance between imagination and responsibility and how to write with empathy rather than appropriation. Whether you’re tackling race, gender, class, or ability, this presentation will equip you with tools to create characters that resonate and ring true.($79.99 value)

Using Characters to Create Momentum

Stories are born from characters facing obstacles to their goals. What makes stories interesting—what gives them momentum—is how those characters react. One might shrug off a metaphorical boulder in the path, simply going around. Another might climb up, and still another might ask for help. Understanding your novel’s major and minor players can help you know where to begin a story and how to keep it moving forward. This is an OnDemand webinar. ($79.99 value)

Exploring the Villain's Journey: Crafting Compelling Antagonists

So much time is spent on the hero's journey when writers are crafting their characters that it is not uncommon to overlook the importance of exploring the villain's journey for those pesky antagonists. In this OnDemand webinar, Vanessa Riley focuses on creating character arcs for villains and complex antagonists, exploring what makes the truly great baddies so memorable. ($79.99 value)

The Art of People Watching: Translating People into Words

Are you struggling to bring your fictional characters to life? Transform your writing by harnessing the art of people-watching, a skill every writer should master. Writing Neurodivergent Characters in Horror

In this OnDemand webinar the instructor discusses the stereotypes and tropes that have come before—everything from hyper-intelligent, emotion-free killing machines to the hyper-fixated, socially awkward investigators who pursue them—as well as the challenges in depicting invisible disorders that express themselves in a myriad of ways. Most importantly, we’ll talk about how to create authentic, neurodiverse characters that aren’t merely a grab bag of their expressed traits and exist on the page with full, lived-in personalities.($79.99 value)

How to Write Great Characters for Great Stories

In this OnDemand webinar, you’ll discover the art of creating engaging characters that will hold your readers spellbound. Learn secrets of psychology and human nature to make your characters more three-dimensional and relatable. You’ll also learn how to draw on insights from relationships in your own life to make your characters jump off the page. This webinar will help you create characters that readers will remember forever. ($79.99 value)

Writing Secondary Characters Who Steal the Show

In this one-hour OnDemand webinar, Kristina Pérez will guide you through the process of developing your own compelling secondary characters. She will address the backstory, characterisation, and worldview necessary to creating a sidekick or antagonist whom your reader may love even more than your heroine. Using examples from her own work as well as classic literature and popular culture, she will demonstrate effective techniques for getting readers to invest in your henchmen, squires, snarky engineers, confidants and mystical messengers. By the end of the webinar, participants will have an understanding of the requirements for a charismatic secondary character and tools to create their own. ($79.99 value)

Writer's Digest March/April 2024 Digital Edition

Whether fiction or narrative nonfiction, characters are a critical part of every story. But that doesn’t mean everyone agrees on how to create those characters or what a character needs to be in order to draw readers in. Do they need to be likable or is compelling enough? Should writers know their characters inside out, or just what’s going to be necessary for the story? In this issue of Writer’s Digest, writers will learn techniques for creating characters for novels, a series, memoir, and more. ($7.99 value)

Writer's Digest July/August 2024 Digital Edition

Nature has always been a source of inspiration for writers, and here we mean nature in the broadest sense. From what we typically think of as nature (e.g. flowers and trees, animals and weather systems, etc.) to the nature of human nature, the July/August 2024 issue of Writer’s Digest aims to explore how writers can use nature as an influence on their work. Great starter Field Watch. Rugged but simple and elegant.
Color: Black/Black/Brown, Color: Black/Black/Brown
I've been wanting to own a field watch for a while. I never got used to smart watches anyway, so I decided to go for a good brand that doesn't cost too much. I decided for this Time Expedition because it gas a good balance between rugged looks, simplicity and elegance. It's perfect for wearing every day, but also great for when you need to dress up as well. If you are planning on getting this watch, be aware that the seconds are tracked on the small dial at the bottom. The large "seconds" hand it's meant for the chonograph feature, so it will sit static at the zero mark until you start the chonograph. You also need to set it up out of the box. It's a simple process to set up the time, the date and reset the small dials in the zero position. The watch came without a manual, but there are plenty of videos on Youtube showing how to set up and use this exact model The band is simple but elegant. It looks like nobuck but it's not really real leather. I can't say how durable it is yet or how long it will look over the time, but Timex is respectable enough so I expect this band to last several months. It can be replaced and there are lots of aftermarket options so I don't worry about this. As other Expedition watches, it also comes with the Indiglo feature. You can activate night mode by pushing down the main button, then the entire face lights up. When using this feature, I noticed that the hands (being white) do not have a good contrast against the lit up face, but you get used to it. The hands themselves are bright under low-light conditions, so you don't really need the Indiglo feature unless you need to see other details from the watch Anyway, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Did not arrive in original packaging, though I do like the watch.
Color: Black/Black/Brown
The watch is great, I love it. I've had it for a week now and it's comfortable, functional, and stylish. However, I'm giving it only 3 stars because of how I received it. It was delivered in a ziplock sleeve with the warranty sheet stuffed in a bubble wrap package. I bought what was described as a new product, but it did not come in the original package, nor owners manual. I had to find the manual from the manufacturer's website in order to set the dang thing!! It begs the question... Did I really receive a genuine Timex timepiece? Either way, so far I'm happy with the product with the exception that the second hand on the stop watch sits about half a click left of noon. I have not yet tested the water resistance, which I'm a little apprehensive about since there seemed to be some sort of light colored lubricant or seal around the crown. I'll have to try it before my time frame for returns has passed. All in all, I would buy it again, just not from amazon fulfillment! UPDATE: I haven't worn the watch in over a year because the crown used to set the time has popped off. Spent no small amount of time trying to find a replacement, but I can't find good measurements for it. Would have to have access to an assortment and go by trial and error.... I guess it still deserves 3 stars?

Takes a Licking and Keeps on Ticking
Color: Green/Black
I love this watch despite the fact that it is really a toy. I love the look of the watch, I love how lite the weight of the watch is on my wrist, and it really does keep good time if you manage the solar charge properly. Other than looking cool on your wrist, this watch has absolutely no functions other than time keeping. The black plastic bezel is molded into the case and does not turn, so don't plan on using that. The watch has no light, the dial numbers are non-luminous and the hands are very limited in terms of luminosity. No buttons. All you can do is adjust the time and date by pulling out what used to be a winding stem in the good old days. The small tag on the strap with Geographic coordinates shown on it indicate the location of the old Timex manufacturing facility (SW of Waterbury, CT). I have a nice ledge at my bedroom window and it gets good western sun for a good part of the day regardless of the time of year. On this ledge you will find a half dozen solar powered watches (mostly Casio) properly aligned to maximize the charge they may receive each day. Note that the description for this Timex watch specifically states that a lightbulb won't charge this watch. You need direct sunlight for several hours if you want to get more than a 3-week charge into this watch. So, I'll leave you with a couple of tips, my friends; 1.) If you are looking for a first watch to give your outdoorsy oriented Son or Daughter, then give them this one. Why? Because it is cool looking, fairly well built, and it actually works, 2.) After you receive your Timex watch, be sure to keep the display mount it is packaged with. It makes a great fixture to mount your watch on for charging and allows you to maximize the position of the solar cells on the dial so that you can optimize charging time. Have Fun! Jimmy

Excellent value, flawless performance for well over a year and no signs of quitting.
Color: Green/Black
Excellent value, had this for well over a year and it still keeps perfect time, still water resistant. No worries about having to change batteries. Owned a fancy expensive (battery) watch once and the dept. store repair intentionally sabotaged the watch in the hopes I would purchase another from them. Yeah, good luck with that, lost my business forever. This is the 21st century, cell phones are the new time pieces, but solar is totally reliable and Timex makes it happen. Holds a charge for many months, although I prop it in a bright window for a few days every few months or so just to make sure the cells are always fully charged, although it's probably unnecessary, just being over cautious. I haven't actually experienced this watch ever running out of power even after months of use. Damn impressive, as it should be.

Good value for solar watch
Color: Black/Orange
Nice watch! It is plastic like but it is solar. No indiglo button only a little luminous on the hands so you don't want to wear it in tje dark and expect to check the time. 45mm case is good size for my wrist and the band works good also, Not too long not too short. Overall a good watch with no problems
