The second most valuable type of opal in the world, boulder opal only appears in thin strips that run through a host rock. As such, stonecutters can really only utilize it by carving the stone in such a way as to display how the opal flows through it. This extremely rare carved owl charm seems to use the opal’s sporadic appearance throughout the piece to suggest the sort of internal complications of a being blessed with exceptional insight.
