Chrismont La Zona Sangiovese 2024 is a classic King Valley Sangiovese crafted by winemaker Warren Proft using a meticulous two-batch fermentation process designed to enhance and exhibit the variety’s characteristic savoury tannins. Dark crimson red with youthful purple hues; black cherry and dark berry aromas with spicy background oak; berry and cherry fruit flavours with cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasty oak on the palate, supported by moderate acidity and the savoury tannin structure that defines great Sangiovese. Released after 15 months in French oak hogsheads and a further 12 to 18 months of bottle ageing.

Appearance

Dark crimson red with youthful purple hues — the vibrant, deep colour of a King Valley Sangiovese crafted with extended maceration and patient oak maturation, with the clarity and intensity that two-batch fermentation and 15 months in French oak hogsheads deliver.

Aroma

Black cherry and dark berry aromas with spicy background oak — the expressive, classic bouquet of a Sangiovese that has been given the time and the oak to develop genuine complexity, with the savoury depth and aromatic precision that the King Valley’s cool-climate Italian variety heritage consistently produces.

Palate

Berry and cherry fruit flavours with cinnamon, nutmeg, and toasty oak — supported by moderate acidity and the characteristic savoury tannins that Warren Proft’s two-batch fermentation process is specifically designed to enhance and exhibit. Structured, complex, and deeply satisfying.

Pairs With

House-made pappardelle with a beef cheek, lamb, and pork ragù topped with stracciatella — or slow-roasted lamb, osso buco, aged hard cheeses, and rich Italian-inspired cuisine of every kind. The savoury tannins, cherry fruit, and spice make Chrismont La Zona Sangiovese a deeply natural and satisfying partner for the finest food at the table.

Enjoyable

It is a good read. I enjoy the leafing characters. The plot was well done. But it could use a bit of better editing. There were several mistakes.

as an addition to the Scottish Ladies Detective agency, a new lady sleuth
Format: Kindle
What a wonderful mystery, a grand heroine who is polishing her detective skills. All the pomp of the gentile classes at their play. Murders, theft, and dogs in the highlands, what could be better? Recommend

Promising start to new mystery series.
Format: Kindle
Lady Persephone "Poppy" Proudfoot attends a house party at an estate, meets some American actors, and tries to solve the murder of a stranger to the village whose body is discovered by the lake. The first in a series, this book is a quick read with a plot that moves along, although some of the large cast of characters seem superfluous (e.g., the American visitors). Poppy is a widow, a law-school graduate (in the 1920s!), and ran a hospital for wounded soldiers during WW1, so an interesting character to read about. A promising beginning to the series and I look forward to the next book. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC.
