Taking an exciting leap into new, musical horizons, we're met with the refined, beautiful sounds of the Taylor Somos Collection 250ce Plus BLK Bajo Quinto. The Somos Collection, an assembly of guitars designed to capture the unique tonality of Mexican and other regional Latin musical styles local to Taylor Guitars manufacturing centers, enters the Taylor family balancing the sweet tonality and reliable construction of the brand with distinctly Latin musical priorities. With instruments like Taylor's 250ce Plus BLK Bajo Quinto, both newcomers and veterans to these regional musical styles are treated to Taylor's care and eye for quality.

The Taylor 250ce Plus BLK Bajo Quinto is an authentic and faithful take on the bajo quinto, a ten-string guitar used most prominently by players in norteño music. This begins with a 200 series dreadnought-style body brought together by solid torrefied spruce and layered Big Leaf maple. With Big Leaf maple, a high-quality, bright, and chiming version of maple, the 250ce Plus BLK Bajo Quinto delivers a robust and vibrant tonal palette right off the bat. This tone is matched by the top's torrefied spruce. Torrefaction, a process in which tonewoods are heat treated to bake out imperfections and impart a more lived-in tonal character usually reserved for much older guitars, raises the bar for this bajo quinto's topwood.

Onboard, Taylor's classic V-Class bracing pattern makes an appearance through a C-Class bracing variant. Taylor's C-Class bracing, a cantilevered take on V-Class, lines the torrefied top to increase balance, projection, and contribute to the guitar's overall tonal character. In addition, the C-Class bracing of this model assists in accommodating the overall added strain on the top brought about by the guitar's ten-string design. In norteño music and other regional Mexican genres, the bajo quinto-style of guitar features five pairs of strings set up tuned A-D-G-C-F. This Taylor model meets the demand of this style easily for a model that plays with low-end authority and harmonic complexity.

This Taylor brings on a classic slim Taylor mahogany neck with an ebony fingerboard. Facilitating quick moves from higher to lower registers, iconic Taylor playability makes easy work of playability. Following in Taylor's tradition of fine playability, a number of aesthetic measures are taken to elevate the entire model. For one, a gloss black finish wraps the entire guitar with a bold white body binding. Accenting the curvature of the dreadnought form, this binding matches with a white single-ring Italian rosette, Italian acrylic dot inlays, and satin black hardware appointments. Onboard EMG ACS electronics translate the tones of this bajo quinto to the stage while an included Taylor Aerocase soft case protects the model during travel.

In Spanish, "somos" means "we are." Taylor's Somos Collection sets out to capture the spirit of their binational manufacturing base and musical community with all the lively tradition that implies.

Super easy to use and takes the guess-work out of getting even pressure on the grounds
Size: 58.3mm, Color: Black, Size: 58.3mm, Color: Black
I have been using a hand tamper for many years and have a good idea of the pressure I am applying to the grounds in the portafilter. I honestly considered spring tampers to be a bit silly. But this tamper really does take the guess-work out of pressing the coffee grounds. The shroud helps guide the press so that pressure is applied even and flat across the surface. With the manual tamper, there will be some play when pressing, or some unevenness in pressure. This is especially true when cranking out many espressos during a breakfast party with friends. Having the spring tamper makes quick work of turning out a lot of coffees with consistency. There are no instructions for taking this tamper apart to clean inside, and you may not really need to do that very often. After each use, just pull back the shroud (the black piece that moves up and down) and wipe off the tamper (the shiny steel part). This will help prevent grounds from working their way inside. If you do want to take it apart, it’s easy. Pull back the shroud and unscrew the tamper. It will come apart into three pieces. Wipe the pieces off and reassemble. Super quick and easy. This tamper is very heavy. My scale shows 656 g (about a pound and a half). It fits the portafilter exactly, with no slop. Just place on top of grounds and press!. Don’t even worry about pressure, just push down all the way. Overall I had fun using this tamper versus my manual one. And since I make myself a cappuccino very early in the morning, I don’t have to be very awake to get a good pack on the grounds and get my coffee fast!

Quality and Function
Looks like a silly little thing, I am not a coffee enthusiast. But it does exactly what it is supposed to do and with high quality. The device (a stretch to call it that) is made of sturdy materials including the needles. They give you two different thicknesses of needles, one for expressi (0.3) and one set for coffee grinds (0.4). Each comes wth some spares. The stand is well designed and keeps grinds from spreading all over. It is very elegant design. I use this with a dosing funnel on my portafilter. Not the cheapest one could buy but well worth the money.

Perfect WDT tool
Best WDT I’ve found. Love that it includes 0.3mm needles (as I’ve found that 0.4mm needles push the grounds around too much), and the stand is very clever. It knocks off the residual grounds on the needles and is easy to use. As far as WDT tools go, I can’t imagine anything better.
