Five notable twentieth-century New Zealanders who made their lives in Australia are the subject of this fascinating biographical investigation by award-winning author Stephanie Johnson. Roland Wakelin, Dulcie Deamer, Jean Devanny, Douglas Stewart and Eric Baume had little in common in personality, proclivities and politics. Yet they all experienced fame and/or notoriety in the â€West Island’ while being largely forgotten in their country of origin. They also occasionally crossed paths in the course of eventful lives. The works of painter Roland Wakelin place him as a founder of Australia’s Modern Movement, while his modest and affable personality was the opposite of the stereotypical artist. Dulcie Deamer was a writer and libertine known for her leopardskin attire and associations with the larger-than-life characters of the Sydney bohemian set – including the â€Witch of Kings Cross’, fellow New Zealander Rosaleen Norton. The forthright feminism and creative integrity of novelist Jean Devanny led to bitter battles with the same communist movement she devoted decades of her life to. Douglas Stewart was one of the most famous â€Australian’ writers of his period. He was a long- term gatekeeper for Australian letters as the literary editor of the Bulletin, and then editor for publishers Angus and Robertson. Born into an unusual and unorthodox Jewish family, Eric Baume gained prominence in Australia as an early prototype of the modernday â€shock jock’ and at one stage one of th

My son destroys shoes, same thing happened here.
Size: 5 Big Kid, Color: Black
For some reason my son started doing the duck walk at school and while performing this little trick for his classmates he ripped the rubber that wraps over top the toe. Now, instead of being glued up and into place, its basically sagging down. Thankfully that's the only thing that's gone wrong with these and honestly this sort of wear and tear is not typical. What I would say is that if your child is rough on shoes, I would pass on these. They are very nice, very light weight and are great for school. However, due to the design, they might not best good for some kids.
In terms of sizing and comfort, my son wears a 5 and these fit him very well. He has wide feet like his dad, and these don't bother him at all. He's says they're very comfortable and does enjoy wearing them.

No tying necessary
Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia, Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia
I ordered a kids size 1 for my child, and so far, I’ve been really happy with these shoes.
Here’s what I like:
✅ Stylish design and comfortable fit. My daughter loves wearing these.
✅ They don’t show scuffs or scratches easily.
✅ The color is what I expected from the item pictures and it’s really cute.
✅ The Velcro straps make these easy to get off and put on.
✅ There’s a piece of Velcro on the tongue to help keep it in place. Really smart.
✅ The seams have not pulled apart and overall, these seem to be really well made.
They have offered good support for my child’s feet, and a shoe that my child can put on by themselves is a win for me!

Durable girls sneakers
Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia, Size: 1 Little Kid, Color: Fuchsia
These Saucony girls sneakers in fuchsia are great. The design and coloring are fun and vibrant and the cushioning on the insole is good with just enough bounce. The material and construction seem durable. The Velcro strap secures in two places so you get a snug fit without the shoe “tongue” moving around.
The sizing seems true to size. Overall these are a very solid, comfortable and functional pair of sneakers. $47, the current price, is about the price for similar products these days.
