Vintage Lemaire Fabt Opera Glasses — Mother of PearlFrench opera glasses by Lemaire of Paris, made around the turn of the twentieth century. The barrels are clad in white mother of pearl, cut into tapering panels with the soft, milky iridescence the maker was known for. Lemaire was the most prolific of the Parisian opera glass houses, and signed pieces like this one set the standard others were measured against. The frame, eyecup rings, and trim are a silvered metal, cooler in tone than the gilt brass

French opera glasses by Lemaire of Paris, made around the turn of the twentieth century. The barrels are clad in white mother-of-pearl, cut into tapering panels with the soft, milky iridescence the maker was known for. Lemaire was the most prolific of the Parisian opera-glass houses, and signed pieces like this one set the standard others were measured against.

The frame, eyecup rings, and trim are a silvered metal, cooler in tone than the gilt-brass examples and worn to a soft gray with age. Both eyecups read "LEMAIRE FABT PARIS" around the lens, each marked with the maker's bee hallmark, and the bridge is stamped "12 LENSES." A central knurled wheel sets focus and turns smoothly.

Magnification is modest, meant for a seated view across a hall rather than the field. As a vintage piece, expect minor wear consistent with age and handling. A beautiful pair in excellent working condition.

Too small
Much smaller than it appeared to me in the picture. I did not read the length as I should. I would not have bought it if I saw it before purchasing. My 18 month old grandson now has a new toy.

Rottie Approved
Size: Large
My Rottie loves playing with this ball, either alone or with me. The first day she chewed a corner of the handle off (the handle is still usable), but then she figured out what it was for and has a blast with it. She has done no further damage to it, and it is strong enough to play tug. It's her favorite toy.
