Decades ago, the family patriarch Donald was drawn to California viticulture and became enamored with the Mount Veeder region. Bucking conventional wisdom at the time, he gambled that the volcanic mountainside offered an advantageous terroir to cultivate nuanced, robust wines. In 1978, he launched The Hess Collection winery at a historical site, melding his dual artistic callings by incorporating an exhibition space. Donald s daughter Sabrina and her spouse Tim now helm the family enterprise, aiming to uphold accessibility to both fermented beverages and creative works, while hopefully passing the mantle to future offspring. The traditional red fruit aromas and flavors of the dominant Cabernet Sauvignon are led by bright cherry and wild mountain raspberry. The addition of our Malbec offers blueberry joined by notes of vanilla, cassis, creamy chocolate caramel and oak spice.
