This arrangement of Mason’s Apron has been evolving for a long time. I first played my own version of it as a 16-year-old back in 2008, and it’s changed shape countless times since then. Over the years, I’ve heard so many great interpretations from players like Andrew Douglas, Angus D. MacColl, Chris Armstrong, Gordon Walker, Stuart Liddell, and most recently Matt MacIsaac, and their approaches have definitely influenced the way I’ve shaped my current rendition. There's a little bit of their versions sprinkled in here!
This 2025 music is exactly the version I played in my Wauchope Highland Gathering recital in November 2025. I’m always tweaking, adjusting, and experimenting, so who knows what the next one will sound like—but this is the snapshot I’m sharing with you today.
