The Greer Southland Harmonic Overdrive effect pedal builds on the same foundation as the Lightspeed Organic Overdrive but adds increased gain and two distinct stages of clipping for a stronger, more harmonically rich sound. Each clipping stage employs different diode types, resulting in a range of overdrive from a mild break-up to heavier crunch. The enhanced midrange voicing avoids an extreme peak or “hump,” allowing the guitar’s natural tonal character to shine through while maintaining extra presence on top to help the signal project in a busy mix. Touch sensitivity and dynamic response remain core strengths of this circuit, translating pick attack variations into nuanced changes in gain and saturation.
A carefully chosen chip drives the design, contributing to the pedal’s ability to sustain notes with a thick, harmonic quality. True bypass circuitry ensures that the signal stays uncolored when the pedal is switched off, preserving clarity for clean passages. The Southland Harmonic Overdrive operates with a 9V–18V negative-center 2.1mm power supply or a standard 9-volt battery, making it adaptable to a variety of pedalboard setups.
