Sizes available: HPP quart

Basics: zones 3-8, 2-4' x 3-5', full sun for best bloom, numerous tiny pink flowers in 4-8" terminal spikes in mid to late summer, likes moist, acidic soil with good drainage. Prefers consistent moisture.

Common names: Steeplebush, Hardhack, Meadowsweet, Eastern Hardhack

Family: Rosaceae

Origin/Distribution: Nova Scotia and New Brunswick over to Quebec and eastern Minnesota south to North Carolina, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Native to Maine.

Habitat: damp meadow, wet margins like bog and marsh edge, low pasture, roadside ditch

More: This is a multi-stemmed shrub that can spread via suckers and responds well to pruning. The more sun and consistent moisture the plant gets, the happier it will be. It flowers on new wood, so can be pruned hard in late winter to early spring without loss of flowers. This makes it a good candidate for shrubberies under rooflines where excessive snow may slide off onto plantings. The leaves and flowers have been used medicinally. It has yellow fall foliage and I look forward to learning if it will be a good bouquet ingredient. Although it may have a bit of deer browse, its bitter flavor discourages significant munching. Steeplebush is a larval host for the New England Buck Moth, Hemileuca lucina, and the Columbia Silk Moth, Hyalophora columbia, both of which are native to Maine. Numerous bees feed on the flowers including these Maine natives: the Brown-belted Bumblebee, Bombus griseocollis, the Common Eastern Bumblebee, Bombus impatiens, the Mesilla Masked bee, Hylaeus mesillae, and the Sweat bees Lasioglossum atwoodi and L. hitchensi. The shrub serves as a breeding ground for the Obscure Plant bug, Plagiognathus fuscosus and the non-native European honeybee, Apis mellifera, will also feed on the plant.

Nice chew!
Pattern Name: Peanut Butter, Size: 12 Inch (Pack of 5)
My American Bulldog loves these sticks. She is an aggressive chewer and these last long enough. My only complaint is the different sizes of the sticks vary. Some of the sticks have nice thickness, others are thin or very thin.

My dog LOVES these!
Pattern Name: Peanut Butter, Size: 6 Inch (Pack of 15)
My two year old mini poodle loves these! Of course all dogs love peanut butter. And carrots! The only caution I take is to only let her eat half. Yes it is a wrestling match when making her retreat. LOL I find if my girl eats it all she is likely to have ugly bowel issue either later or first thing when she rises in the morning . I still buy them over and over but use with a plan in mind. I think they are medium hardness. My dog really needs something harder to engage for days. I do buy the hard Himalayan cheese on Amazon but she prefers her other options. Depending on your breed size and how much you like to clean up poo determines your personal plan for your fur baby.

Made my dog very sick!
My dog has been eating these for 3 years. He loves them and they help keep his teeth clean. I gave him one from the New bag I ordered. It looked a little lighter in color but I thought it was fine. That was this past Sunday. He only ate half of it and I thought that was odd. That night around 1am he threw up. Then had diarrhea later that morning. I thought maybe he ate something in the yard. Now Monday he stopped eating and had explosive diarrhea. Took him to vet on Tuesday morning. They did bloodwork, checked feces and had x ray done incase of a possible blockage. Finally got results on Thursday and 700.00 later. Doctor said he must of eaten something but can't say exactly what. He's doing better now with an antibiotic. The only thing he ate was that bully bone on Sunday. It was really scary because he was so sick. I will be throwing out these bones and try to find something safe for him to chew. This was a great product until they may have changed ingredients.
