Tasting Notes for Planteray Mister Fogg Navy Rum Sail No 1

On the nose, dried fruit, orange peel, chocolate and vanilla. Ending on plam and caramel. On the palate it's rich in smoked molasses and caramel. A ripe fruit finish with a smooth, warm, lingering sweetness.

Production Notes

Aged in ex-bourbon barrels in their countries of origin, these rums were then transported to the south-west of France, emulating the historic tradition of dynamic aging on ships. Upon arrival in the Cognac region, the blend undergoes double aging in used oak barrels and extensive oxygenation in large, open wooden vats in cellars next to the river L'Antenne, replicating the humid environment of the Naval docks in London, enhancing maturation. This process ensures a rum with a rich, mellow flavor and enhanced smoothness.

Presented at a robust 55.7% ABV, this reflects the historical navy proof standards and ensures the rum's stability, honoring the traditions of the British Navy while appealing to modern palates.

"For years, I've yearned to uncover the true heart of Navy Rum, tracing its roots back to the 1600s. Teaming up with my friend and rum historian, Matt Pietrek, we embarked on a four year journey exploring ancient documents, stories, methods, and recipes to unveil the genuine nature of this captivating rum style. During our expedition, we crossed paths with Mr. Michael Fogg, whose long career with a navy broker had rescued countless documents and artifacts from destruction. Sorting through untold pages, we unearthed a set of cardinal rules and methods that have endured, shaping the nature, history, and process of Navy Rum. Sparked by these revelations, my team and I set out to recreate this legendary rum, paying homage to the man who made our work possible. We proudly present Mister Fogg, a rum inspired by a life devoted to preserving the true essence of Navy Rum."
