This aerial view of the old rural tennis court in Gimmerburn was taken in 2017. From directly above, the geometry of the concrete grid becomes the dominant feature — a patchwork of pale slabs stitched together by fine green seams of grass. The encroaching growth softens what was once a hard playing surface, creating a quiet tension between order and neglect.

The symmetry is still largely intact here. The court lines remain readable, the structure recognisable, and the surrounding grass forms a neat border around the square. It feels paused rather than abandoned — a place where time has begun its slow work, but the memory of community games and rural gatherings still lingers.
