Meticulously restored by Bernie Grundman, who resequenced the long-lost master tape and mastered it through an all-analog transfer, this release brings renewed clarity and warmth to Hamilton’s visionary work. Extensive liner notes by Torii MacAdams recount Bobby’s challenging journey navigating the paranoid, polyester-and-cocaine-soaked 1970s jazz scene. Hamilton founded the band Anubis in Syracuse, New York, releasing the influential single “Ecology” on Charles Bazen’s Salt City label — a track later featured on the Soul Cal anthology. Following that, he assembled the Bobby Hamilton Quintet Unlimited and recorded this landmark album in 1972. The last clean copy Bobby Hamilton owned was sold to musician Jamie XX in 2021 for a princely sum. With the original pressing of just 500 copies long vanished into the ether, few originals will ever resurface. Now, music fans everywhere have the chance to dream again with this essential reissue. Dream Queen stands as a timeless statement of artistic struggle, spiritual yearning, and deep jazz commitment.
