Lady Chatterley's husband returns from the War paralysed from the waist down. Frustrated by his attitudes as much as his disability, Lady Chatterley begins a love-affair with the gamekeeper. She realises that to be fully alive she must live the life of the body as well as the mind, which angers the conventions of her day. 

David Herbert Lawrence (1885-1930) was born in Nottinghamshire, the son of a coal miner. Although first published in 1928, it was not until 1960 that an uncensored version of Lady Chatterley's Lover was released.
