Rustic and rich with character, this 19th century French breadboard from Provence is a striking example of utilitarian design meeting timeless charm. Hand carved from a single, substantial slab of hardwood, it features a rectangular form with beveled corners and a uniquely tapered handle that's pierced at the top for hanging in a farmhouse kitchen.

Thick and weighty, this Provençal board was likely used daily for preparing dough, slicing loaves of crusty bread, or perhaps even serving rustic fare in a countryside home. Its deeply textured surface, etched by decades of use, bears the beautifully worn patina of time, with knife marks, edge wear, and gentle undulations that only add to its authenticity. These organic imperfections and surface irregularities are not flaws, but rather a testament to a storied past and generations of hands at work.

Boards like this one were essential tools in 19th century French households, particularly in Provence, where hearty breads and simple meals were a way of life. Today, this board brings an authentic sense of age and artisan craftsmanship to any space, whether displayed on a kitchen counter, hung on a wall, or used as a dramatic serving piece for charcuterie or cheese. *Shown with additional antique breadboards, each sold separately. This listing is for the featured board only.

Be careful while assembling!
I have bought similair bookcases in the past...long time ago. I thought the quality back then was poor, because it was made out of compressed sawdust with glue ( composite). But these shelves are slightly less quality of those of long ago. The company has made great strides at providing the pieces with pre-drilled holes with excellent precision. However, the composite material does not have quite enough glue mixed within. So the material is ever so slightly crumbly. So once you screw in a screw, don't remove it, because if you do the screw will not hold as good. I reccomend that you add a drop of glue into each hole during assembly. The rotating screw locks are made of cheap pot-metal that will snap if you crank too hard on your screwdriver. The good news is the kit comes with plenty of extra screws, wooden dowels, and such.
