As if pulled straight from a 1950s Fender catalog, the Fender Custom Shop 1959 Esquire is an intriguing interpretation of a precursor to the Fender Telecaster. The Fender Custom Shop 1959 Esquire brings the design and charisma of the original Fender Esquire into the modern era. Classic Fender style is displayed in the instantly recognizable single cutaway body, an icon in electric guitar design. While the Telecaster shape is familiar to many, the playing experience of the 1959 Esquire is from an interestingly different generation. Players will encounter a thick, large “C”-shaped neck that is heftier and fuller while producing greater resonance with the ash wood body. A minimalist hardware configuration provides the voice of the 1959 Esquire. The exclusion of a Telecaster neck pickup is reminiscent of original Esquire design specifications, as the straightforward design enables players to harness pure single-coil signal with ease. The use of a lone single-coil pickup enables direct control over the volume and tone of the Esquire with the 3-way electronics switch. Selecting the first position of the switch sends a full-volume signal to the output jack, the second position incorporates volume control, and the third fully utilizes control over the volume and tone.
