Log Cabin Patchwork Tote Bag

The Log Cabin Patchwork Tote is the perfect project for anyone who wants to explore patchwork while making a useful, beautiful everyday bag. In this 2-part class, you’ll learn how to build a classic log cabin block — a traditional patchwork design made by sewing strips of fabric around a center square.

This project is a wonderful way to play with color, contrast, scraps, and fabric placement. You’ll create your own patchwork panel, learn how small fabric pieces come together to make a bold design, and then turn your finished patchwork into a lined tote bag you can use for sewing supplies, books, errands, or your next trip to the fabric store.

Skills you will learn

How to sew and understand the parts of the machine
How to choose and arrange fabric strips for contrast and balance
How to sew patchwork strips accurately
How to press seams for neat, flat patchwork
How to square up your patchwork panel
How to add structure to your tote with interfacing
How to sew and line a simple tote bag
How to attach handles to your bag
How to finish your tote neatly so it looks polished inside and out

*You won't be quilting in this class (meaning you won't be using batting and quilting--sandwiching the piecing and batting together) - this class is on piecing and patchwork which is the foundation for quilting

Skills expected: None

Materials: We’ll provide a variety of fabric pieces and scraps for the patchwork, but you’re welcome to bring your own quilting cottons, fabric scraps, or special fabric pieces if you’d like to personalize your tote.

Materials provided: A sewing machine, coordinating thread, fabric shears, pins, marking tools, measuring tape, an iron, interfacing, fabric pieces/scraps, lining fabric, and webbing or fabric for handles

Max number of people for class: 6

Easy Read with good case studies!!
Format: Paperback
I had to purchase this for my Advanced Pathophysiology class in my Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. It is very easy to understand and have pretty good case studies. I like that the CD that accompanies the book goes into some detail in explaining the cases further and the disease processes without giving you the answers to the questions. It stimulates one to think!! Once this class is over I will go back from time to time to review!!

Helpful
Format: Paperback
This is a nice compliment to other classroom instruction materials. I am teaching an advanced pathophysiology course in a nurse practitioner program. This book is very helpful for students to put together the concepts of patho with the clinical setting. Will use these for in-class group assignments. Case-studies are thorough and offer a variety of different disease processes to choose from. It certainly does not offer a case study for every possible disease or clinical scenario, but does cover most major areas and enough variety in my opinion. Should be helpful in reinforcing the clinical significance of some difficult to understand concepts. I would recommend this text to course instructors.

Good book!
Format: Paperback
Very helpful book for pathophysiology. The CD not only gives you answers to the case studies but gives you clear details of the clinical Pathophysiology of a particular disease. Definitely recommend it to students going for their Master's degree!

No Answers Provided to Case Studies
Format: Paperback
The cases are helpful; however, realize that there are NO answers whatsoever to the questions presented in the cases--not a huge problem I suppose, b/c you can google everything, but certainly an annoyance. (esp. when there are multiple possible answers. The author states in the foreword that some of the cases are real; in which case, why not provide the justification presented in the patient's chart as to why that patient takes a particular drug, esp. considering that you may take a drug for its side effects rather than its therapeutic effect. . .anyhow. . ) I think if the author provided at least SOME insight/guidance to the cases that it would be much more helpful, but until then, I'm skeptical as to why others gave this book 5 stars.
