More: Many varieties of Barrenwort have been in cultivation for over 150 years. A tried and true perennial for a shady border. Will gradually increase into a nice-size clump via rhizome. The foliage looks great all summer and provides welcome shade and protection to insects, small mammals, toads, and salamanders. Clumps can be divided in late summer. I have seen early season bees feeding on the flowers. Epimediums are attractive and adaptable additions to a variety of woodland settings. The leaves and flower sprays are pretty in smaller bouquets. Epimediums are deer and rabbit resistant.
