Soapstone This beautiful soapstone (also known as Steatite) contains less talc than most soapstones, and so its a much tougher/hard stone with 0% absorption, making it ideal for kitchen sink use. It was commonly thought that soapstone should be treated with mineral oil to maintain a rich dark look, however since it can easily be washed off with soap and water, its an endless job. With todays technology, engineered sealers are food safe and provide much better results, most will last for a year or more, so if you want your sink to appear as black use a enhancer/sealer, but if you prefer the natural charcoal color, please do not use any sealers.
