ABOUT THE WEBINAR

Studios and producers have gatekeepers who read script submissions before the head honchos ever do. Their opinion can make or break your script. Score well on a reader's report and you've just taken the first big step to a sale. Even if you don't sell your script, a great reader's report from a big name producer or studio can help land you an agent or a manager.

Peter worked as a script reader for over twelve years, and read over 5,000 scripts for major producers and studios including CBS, HBO, Imagine Entertainment, and many, many more. He saw the same problems over and over again. It wasn't just the new writers' scripts, either. Scripts from very famous, well-paid writers were often turned down for the same reasons.

Learn the most common mistakes readers see in scripts and how to fix them. Discover how to make your concept, characters, dialogue, storyline and structure shine above the rest.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

  • What concepts producers want most
  • How to write characters that connect with the reader and the audience
  • The difference between showing and telling
  • The most important way every character needs to change -- and the one exception
  • What genre means and why you need to know your genre inside and out
  • The truth about writing unique stories that don't "fit the mold"
  • One incredibly easy trick that will make your stories memorable
  • How to make readers want to turn the page
  • The one thing that every recommended script does very well

WHO SHOULD LISTEN?

  • Writers who are looking to take their work to the next level
  • Writers who are frustrated because their work is getting a "Pass" from studios and producers
  • Writers who know their ideas are great but something falls apart on the page
  • Writers who are looking to write character-driven material
  • Writers with a unique point of view who want to know how to sell their work
  • New writers who want to improve their knowledge of story

Great beginner book but should have covered layout
Format: Kindle
I've done HTML and made an attempt to learn CSS before. This book is a GREAT choice for beginners as well as myself. The examples are pretty easy to follow and made sense. Most of all this was THE book on CSS I was looking for. My previous attempt to learn CSS was overly complicated and convoluted and left me completely confused on CSS and barely able to get the job done. Perhaps it was because it was for the specific software I was using rather than just CSS. Regardless, after this book I feel confident with CSS now and was surprised how easy it actually is when properly explained. My only complaint on this book is that I think it should have covered page layout with parent DIVs and child DIVs or page layout in general. That's definitely the next thing to learn after reading this book. But I was able to easily find a video on page layout after reading the book and took it to the next level. This book prepared me for that and got me to a place where I was ready for that. Hopefully the next version of the book will include page layout techniques to give your website a more professional look. I'm giving it 5 stars because page layout and graphic design really probably are intermediate topics. So, for an HTML and CSS book, this really "hit the spot"!

Easy to follow for a beginner!
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
It’s easy to follow and understand, like putting a puzzle together following step by step instructions eventually feeling more and more confident. You will learn how to build a website starting with HTML. Love the exercises and snippets. If you never used VS code text editor, I suggest watching video on social media about VScode editor if you use this book. VS is a great code editor and it’s free. Pro tip- install live preview from extensions from your explorer pane, it saves time refreshing a browser to see your work and refreshes in real time as you build and style your pages. The book will go into detail about more technical terms as you move through the chapters. I am a student in Front End Web development and everything internet. This book does a good job identifying some of the technical terms of how browsers display HTML documents in a viewport leading up to responsive design. This book is beginner friendly. I don’t think you need any knowledge of HTML, or CSS to start with this book. You don’t need to be an IT technician either, just a simple understanding of how the internet works. You do need to have an interest in learning to code though because it can be a learning curve. Persistence, patience, and lots of practice will make you successful and that’s the payoff. Buy with confidence!

A Solid Book & Place To Start!
Format: Paperback
So far I'm enjoing this book and I do recommend it for beginners and novice programmers alike. It's a sold read and an extremely solid place to start. I knocked off a star because it also does tend to be a little longer than needed.

Amazing book
Format: Paperback
One of the standout features of this book is its stunning design. Each page is meticulously crafted with vibrant colors, clear diagrams, and engaging layouts, making complex concepts easy to understand and visually appealing. But beyond its aesthetics, the content itself is top-notch. Duckett breaks down HTML and CSS in a way that’s approachable and easy to digest. Whether you’re learning the basics of structuring web pages with HTML or delving into the intricacies of styling with CSS, the book provides clear explanations and practical examples every step of the way.
