Pianist Ethan Uslan's second CD for Rivermont demonstrates his remarkable versatility at the keyboard, featuring a pleasing mixture of "hot" and "sweet." Whether he is playing a solo concert of ragtime, jazz, or classical music, accompanying a silent movie, or providing tasteful "dinner music," Uslan is right at home. Originally intended for limited promotional use, the recordings on this disc were too good to keep to ourselves. The program begins with several of Uslan's trademark fiery arrangements of favorite songs such as "I Found a New Baby," "Marie," "My Old Kentucky Home," and even a ragtime setting of Chopin's Nocturne in E-flat (Op. 9, No. 2). The second half of the disc finds Uslan performing classics of the Great American Songbook in a self-described "mellow, lush 'cocktail' style." 45 minutes.
