New Zealanders started hearing things in new ways when new audio technologies arrived from overseas in the late 19th century. From the first public demonstration of a phonograph in a Blenheim hall in 1879, people were exposed to a succession of machines that captured, stored and transmitted sounds – through radio, cinema and recordings. In The World’s Din, Peter Hoar documents the arrival of the first such â€talking machines’, and their growing place in New Zealanders’ public and private lives, through the years of radio to the dawn of television. In so doing, he chronicles a â€sonic revolution’ in how New Zealanders heard the world. The change was radical, signifying a defining break from the past. Human experience of the world changed forever during the late 19th and early 20 centuries because we learned to capture, store, and transmit sounds and moving images. â€Audio’ since then has been a continued refinement of the original innovation, even in the contemporary era of digital sound, with iPods, streaming audio and Spotify. The World’s Din is a beautifully written account that will delight music-lovers and technophiles everywhere. Without further ado, it is time to crank the gramophone, or tune the wireless, or open the Jaffa box as the cinema lights dim, and hearken to the richness and variety of listening in New Zealand’s past soundscapes.

My 90 lb. Pitbull's All-Time Fave Toy
Size: Large, Color: Coral, Size: Large, Color: Coral
I ordered a plethora of new toys for Bruce to keep him occupied while I am working remotely from home. Poor guy gets so bored while I'm stuck in front of my computer 8+ hours a day. All the other toys are animated, but this one is just a big floppy chewy squeaky toy. Bruce quickly lost interest in all the other chirping, hopping, and twirling toys and fell in love with "Diny". When I opened Diny and gave it to Bruce, he had the elated and surprised look of a 3 yr old at Christmas. And he stayed that happy for hours, and then each time he picked up Diny to play. Diny became his go-to toy over all others (and there are many!). It is well made out of durable fabric, and they did not stuff it full of kapoc (I hate kapoc in dogs toys!). And it is delightfully low-tech. Normally he tears a squeaky toy apart as soon as he can isolate the squeaky mechanism. But cleverly, the squeaky box is loose in the long belly so it moves from one end to the other as the toy is handled. That made it difficult for Bruce to locate it. The toy remained in good condition for 2 weeks of near constant attention by Bruce. But yesterday he zeroed in on the squeaky box and ripped Diny to shreds. I was sad to see Diny go so soon. But boy-howdy was Bruce happy with it. I'm gonna buy another because we liked it so much. And so did I : )

This is one “under the radar” gem!!
Size: Large, Color: Coral
This is one “under the radar” gem!! Very strong internal squeaker and way tougher than it looks. My big 125lb Shepard-Husky mix gave it heck, then made it his new buddy. He’ll occasionally give it the business but on the whole, it’s surprisingly tough and my big boy loves it. Nice price!!

Cute but small
Size: Large, Color: Skinny Green
Cute stuffy and has not yet ripped. While my dogs plays with it, the toy is a bit small for him. For reference he is 120lbs.

Powerful little ball
The ball is well designed, made, and is durable. It is functional and easy to turn on. It has a good amount of power and movement to capture my pets attention. It moves easily on wooden, laminated, and carpeted floors. The material is hard which makes it not break down easily when bitten or chewed. The colors are appealing and attractive.

Too big and heavy for my dog. Spins more often than it rolls. Good material.
The first time we used this, which honestly took a bit too long to figure out, our dog was excited and immediately kicked it under the couch. I guess that makes sense, you really have no idea where this thing is going to end up. I did fish it out after a bit, and it needed a charge. After reassembly, the ball would only spin in circles until it was hit. That's probably just as well, as it was still engaging and less likely to roll away.
The issue is this is large and heavy, larger than a tennis ball and heavier than it looks. That's fine for big dogs, but it isn't great for small dogs like Boston terriers or frenchies, and definitely useless for toy breeds. My dog was able to lift it with the module removed, and that's how he prefers it now. The outer TPU layer is strong and grippy, so it's not a total waste. It looks a little rougher than the pictures appear but my dog doesn't mind. I get it... I"ve worked with TPU before and it's a temperamental material.
The price is quite low, but not if you aren't getting use out of the mechanical aspect. This is a good value for the right dog: a medium dog with a snout - maybe a sheltie; definitely a golden. For others, a smaller version would be nice.
